So Steve Ralston has been the subject of a few news items today:
First, he was nominated for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week for his 59th minute goal – you know, the one where he faked out two TFC defenders and beat the keeper across the face of the goal? – on Saturday night. Last we checked he was trailing in voting, however.
Second, he also won MLS Player of the Week honors after voting by the North American Soccer Reporters. Believe it or not, his last POW award came 11 – eleven!! – years ago. Week 8, 1997 to be exact.
In the time since his last award, he’s gotten married, had three kids, moved from Tampa Bay to New England, earned 36 caps with the U.S. National Team, become MLS’ all-time leader in games played, starts, minutes played, assists, game-winning assists and ranked second in corner kicks. Oh, and earned six MLS All-Star honors.
What do you think? Has he done enough in 11 years? Just kidding, Rally! Congrats!

Talk about stepping it up when we need it too. With Twellman and Dorman gone we needed this offensive force in the midfield. As Tedy Bruschi pointed out on many occasions, as you get older you have to learn to play smarter. You don’t have to hit hardest to be the best guy on the defensive line. You gotta know where to be and how to read the game. Nice work Rally!!!!!! We wouldn’t be where we are today without you!!!!! Now let’s get you that champsionship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve is my favorite player to watch. Hard work and talent pay off. He is a true captain-wish more professionals had that much class. Wishing you continued success!
