With the College Cup starting today in Frisco, Texas, today, we polled our players whose alma maters are taking part to get their predictions. No surprise that each player’s response followed college lines.
Pat Phelan, a Wake Forest product, believe the Demon Deacons will repeat as NCAA champions with a 3-1 victory over UNC in the semis and a 2-0 win over Maryland (who has has winning 2-1 over St. John’s in the other semi) in the championship match.
Taylor Twellman, a former All-American at Maryland, has his Terps taking the championship over Wake, 2-1. In the semis, he’s calling for a 1-0 victory over St. John’s, with a 3-1 Wake win over the Tar Heels.
Shalrie Joseph, a St. John’s graduate and former All-American, made it even simpler. “St. John’s going to win everything … I want them to beat wake in the finals,” he texted back. He did an interview with the New York Times’ Goal blog that has even more detail.
We have still yet to hear back from Wells Thompson, but he has a pretty decent excuse. He’s gone to Africa on his annual mission to work with folks in small villages. We’re pretty sure that he’d pick Wake, though.

So I’m still confused about the Parkhurst thing. Why did he end up on our protected list when the Seattle team selection happened? We knew his contract was up. I assume we thought we had a good shot at keeping him here in NE and things fell apart quickly for some reason or another immediately after Seattle made its selection?

*chuckles* Shalrie is pretty confident, isn’t he? I’m not sure who I would pick, but I think I’ll go with Paddy’s Wake prediction. Just because I can’t resist a redhead.

Merry Christmas to all the fans and team mates of the New England Revolution. I hope that Brad Knighton (MG,uncw, ner) and Adam Cristman ( MG, UVA, ner, kcw) have a Merry Christmas. As always, looking forward to a great season. Next year, I get to root for two teams with two great players. Merry Christmas and God Bless.
