Cary: Day 1 (Travel Day)
Written by supahrevs on March 8, 2009 – 5:12 pm -After last night’s 2-1 victory over Wake Forest University, the players were able to sleep in today before boarding the bus and taking the hour-long drive from Greensboro to Cary, where the Revs will be stationed for the next week. During the Revolution’s seven-day stay in Cary, the club will train for five days (Monday through Friday) before closing out its preseason schedule with a match against the Carolina Railhawks of USL-1 on Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.
There are currently 22 players with the Revolution in Cary, with the 23rd (Chris Albright) expected to arrive at the team hotel tonight. 2009 SuperDraft selections Dado Hamzagic and Chris Salvaggione have been released from camp and will not be joining the club on the second leg of its North Carolina trip. The only other player on the preseason roster - Taylor Twellman - is in Massachusetts with neck pain. Read more about his injury here.
The weather is absolutely gorgeous in North Carolina right now (currently in the lower 80s, lows tonight expected in the upper 50s) and although the temperatures are expected to dip slightly and a few showers are possible later in the week, the conditions should be perfect for training.
Today is a very low-key day for the players and staff, with travel and meals the only activities on the schedule. With the team already in Cary and lunch (delicious, by the way) already served, all that remains for the evening is dinner and relaxation.
Training begins at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, and a joint press conference between the Revs and Railhawks is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Be sure to check the web site for photos and video from tomorrow’s activities later in the afternoon on Monday.
