Injury Report - June 2

injury_reportThe good news just keeps on rolling into Revsland.

Just three days after the Revolution snapped a pesky six-game winless streak with a dramatic win over rival D.C. United, the club has received an even further boost by today’s injury report. With just four players on the list, it’s the smallest injury report the Revs have had all season. What’s more, there has been an upgrade for one of the players still on the list.

Here is the official New England Revolution injury report for Tuesday, June 2:

QUESTIONABLE: Taylor Twellman (neck pain)

DOUBTFUL: Chris Albright (L lateral meniscus surgery)

OUT: Gabriel Badilla (bulging disk), Mauricio Castro (L hamstring strain)

The most notable change to today’s injury report is the upgrade of Chris Albright from “Out” to “Doubtful.” The veteran defender had been listed as “Out” since mid-April after having surgery on the lateral meniscus in his left knee, but with his recovery right on schedule, Albright is nearing a return to the field. After being limited to passing and fitness drills in recent weeks, Albright joined in the small-sided games today and played as the neutral player for the entire training session.

Off the list completely is goalkeeper Zack Simmons, who has recovered from a right hamstring strain and posterior knee sprain.

Still listed as “Questionable” is Taylor Twellman, but it was obviously a welcome sight to see the Revolution’s all-time leading scorer play for 65 minutes on Saturday night and so greatly influence the game. With head injuries, the main concern is always how the player will react to a return to physical contact - and Twellman definitley saw his fair share of that this past weekend - but after training full with the team today, it appears as if the after-effects are minimal.

Mauricio Castro is still listed as “Out” as he battles to recover from a left hamstring strain, but the Honduran midfielder is another player looking closer and closer to a return. After going through extensive sprints today, Castro participated in some passing drills and looks like he’s close to having his full range of movement.

Defender Gabriel Badilla (listed as “Out” with a bulging disk) was also more active today, running for a long period of time before going through some extensive stretching.

JEFF LARENTOWICZ UPDATE: After he took a ball to the face and was forced out of Saturday night’s match against D.C. United in the 25th minute, we know that many of you were concerned about the health of Jeff Larentowicz. We’re happy to report that the fifth-year midfielder participated in full training today and showed no effects of the injury.
