Training Recap - June 19

Preparations for Sunday night’s SuperLiga Group B opener against Santos Laguna continued on the Gillette Stadium practice fields today, as the Revs trained for about an hour and a half in wet conditions. After the weather consisted of driving rain for the first portion of training, the precipitation slowed down to a mist about halfway through the session but still left a slick surface on which to play.

Today’s session involved a game not seen since preseason, as corner flags were used to set up four goals - two along the endlines in each corner of the field. The players were broken up into two teams to play a modified scrimmage, with goals being scored by playing the ball through the flags in either corner of the field. Each team defended two goals and shot at two goals, providing an emphasis on switching the point of attack and defending against it.

Meanwhile, the goalkeepers - including new signing Bobby Shuttleworth - worked off to the side with goalkeepers coach Gwynne Williams.

After the modified scrimmage, the players came together to work on crossing and finishing before ending the session with a 15-minute game of full-field, 11 vs. 11.

The players and staff will be back at the stadium tomorrow morning for one final training session before Sunday night’s match against Santos Laguna.
