Injury Report - June 30

injury_reportToday’s injury report comes to you direct from Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn., where much of the staff has already arrived in preparation for tonight’s U.S. Open Cup third-round match against the Harrisburg City Islanders. If you read today’s newsstand - or if you’ve followed the team at all recently - you’re already aware that the current injury situation (along with suspensions and national team callups) has the Revs rather shorthanded at the moment.

The good news is that no one has been added to the injury list since we last checked in on Friday, while two players have been upgraded.

Here is the New England Revolution’s official injury report for Tuesday, June 30:

QUESTIONABLE: Kevin Alston (R hamstring tightness), Gabriel Badilla (bulging disk)

OUT: Chris Albright (L lateral meniscus surgery), Mauricio Castro (L hamstring strain), Shalrie Joseph (R knee cartilage defect/bone bruising), Steve Ralston (R hamstring strain), Taylor Twellman (Disabled List: concussion)

Both Kevin Alston (R hamstring tightness) and Gabriel Badilla (bulging disk) have been upgraded to “Questionable,” with Alston bumping up from “Doubtful” and Badilla making the jump all the way from “Out.” Alston originally tweaked his hamstring in the SuperLiga Group B opener against Santos Laguna and missed the final two games of the group stage, but the rookie defender has returned to training and could be available for the weekend trip to Los Angeles, although he is not expected to travel with the team to New Britain this evening.

Meanwhile, this marks the first time since preseason that Badilla has been upgraded above “Out,” as the Costa Rican defender - who turns 25 years old today - is expected to make the trip to New Britain and could see action in tonight’s U.S. Open Cup game. If he takes the field, it would mark Badilla’s first competitive game action in almost eight months, as he hasn’t donned the Revs jersey since the final game of the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs. He originally injured his back in preseason training and has been unavailable since.

Chris Albright, Mauricio Castro, Shalrie Joseph, Steve Ralston and Taylor Twellman all remain “Out” with their respective injuries and none will travel for tonight’s U.S. Open Cup game. All five players have been at the stadium in the past few days receiving treatment and we’re hearing that Ralston could return to training sooner rather than later. Also - as first reported on Friday, June 26 - Twellman has been added to the disabled list and will miss at least six league matches before he is eligible to return.
