Training Recap - Aug. 7
Written by revolutionsoccer on August 7, 2009 – 12:53 pm -It was another glorious day in Foxborough as the Revs hit the field for their final training session before tomorrow night’s showdown with the LA Galaxy (6 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel, WEEI Radio Network). With just a little more than 24 hours before kickoff, today’s session was typically light and lasted no longer than one hour.
BLOG SPECIAL: With the University of Akron’s preseason training set to begin next week, today was Under-18 captain Scott Caldwell’s last day training with the Revolution before heading off to school. Unsurprisingly, he received a special sendoff from the boys. Don’t miss the pictures after the jump …
For the second straight day, today’s workout was dedicated primarily to full-field, 11 vs. 11 work. After the jog and stretch, the players took the field for a short scrimmage before concluding the session with some crossing and finishing.
With the weather virtually ideal, a lot of the guys stayed on afterwards to do some extra running, take a few free kicks, or simply play some games, but by 11:30 a.m., the entire crew was inside getting the necessary rest ahead of tomorrow night’s game.
Of course, the Friday injury report is always a critical factor entering Saturday night games, so be sure to check the blog later today to get the full scoop.
GOOD LUCK, SCOTT!
The highlight of today’s session was easily the sendoff for Caldwell, who will be making his way to Akron in the coming days after spending the summer training with the Revs. At the end of the session, the ice from both coolers was pooled into one (and from what we’re told, it was pretty cold). As seen in the pictures, Jay Heaps and Matt Reis crept up behind the unsuspecting Caldwell while he was stretching and distracted by a third confidant, Steve Ralston, who was chatting with Caldwell to keep his attention.
The results are below …

The Approach

The dump (Poor Scott has NO idea)

The splash

The celebration

The aftermath
Best of luck at Akron, Scott, and we hope to be seeing a lot more of you around these parts in the future.
