Injury Report and Training Recap - Aug. 25
Written by supahrevs on August 25, 2009 – 3:18 pm -
With 10 games remaining in the regular season and the stretch run toward the playoffs officially upon us, each and every Tuesday and Friday could become more critical as league-wide injury reports are released. Following a pair of wins last week, the Revs have jumped into a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference and will want to be as healthy as possible for the last two months of the regular season.
Today’s injury list is a little longer than anyone would like at this point in the season - especially considering the injury concerns earlier in the year - but with only four players below “Questionable,” it’s far from catastrophic.
Here is the official New England Revolution injury report for Tuesday, Aug. 25:
PROBABLE: Jay Heaps (L hamstring strain), Kenny Mansally (L ankle sprain), Bobby Shuttleworth (R hip flexor strain)
QUESTIONABLE: Kheli Dube (L hamstring strain), Jeff Larentowicz (R wrist fracture)
DOUBTFUL: Edgaras Jankauskas (L adductor strain)
OUT: Chris Albright (L lateral meniscus tear/bone bruising), Kevin Alston (illness), Taylor Twellman (Disabled List: concussion)
Off the list is Mike Videira, who was “Probable” with a left abdominal strain on Friday but was healthy enough to make his fourth start of the season against Real Salt Lake on Sunday. Following his 62-minute performance, he’s been declared fully healthy.
Added to today’s list are Kheli Dube (Questionable), Jeff Larentowicz (Questionable) and Kevin Alston (Out). Hat-trick hero Dube - who was named Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week for his three-goal performance against RSL - suffered a left hamstring strain late in that match and actually came off for the last few minutes even though the Revs had used their full complement of substitutes. Larentowicz, meanwhile, suffered a fractured right wrist in the RSL match and was replaced in the 76th minute, and there’s no confirmation yet on whether the wrist will require surgery. The last of the new additions is Alston, who is currently out after coming down with an illness after playing the full 90 minutes on Sunday night. None of the trio were at today’s training session, which was reserved only for players who didn’t start against RSL.
The other change on today’s injury report is the slight downgrade of Edgaras Jankauskas from “Questionable” to “Doubtful” with a left adductor strain. After earning his first career assist in Seattle last Thursday night, Jankauskas was unavailable for Sunday night’s game against Salt Lake and stayed inside to receive treatment today.
Jay Heaps (L hamstring strain), Kenny Mansally (L ankle sprain) and Bobby Shuttleworth (R hip flexor strain) all remain “Probable” with their respective injuries. Heaps played the full 90 minutes on Sunday night, while Mansally made a late substitute appearance and took full part in today’s training session.
Finally, Chris Albright (L lateral meniscus tear/bone bruising) and Taylor Twellman (Disabled List: concussion) are both still “Out,” although Twellman had a busy day yesterday filming a variety of video for Children’s Hospital Boston, as noted on the blog.
As for today’s training session, as previously noted, it was reserved only for those players who didn’t start on Sunday night against RSL - although Mike Videira did take part after playing 62 minutes in that match. The session consisted mostly of a variety of possession games while goalkeepers Brad Knighton and Bobby Shuttleworth worked off to the side with Gwynne Williams.
Joining the smaller number of Revs players at today’s session was U.S. Under-20 player Sheanon Williams, who also trained with the club earlier in the summer.

NO!!! NOT JEFF LARENTOWICZ!! AHHHH!
I hope Kevin gets better, too. Hopefully its not the SWINE FLU.
p.s. can you play with a cast in MLS??

Kevin does not have swine flu. Hopefully, just a bout of strep throat.

Lesley - you can play with a cast, but the athletic trainers and referees usually require a certain amount of outside padding on it to protect opposing players. If you remember, Shalrie Joseph played with a cast late in 2007 after he needed surgery on his hand.

And famously, Josh Gros seemingly always played with a cast on. I think he just liked being able to club people.

This is probably as good a time as any to give JL some rest, whether he could be padded up to play or not.

Probably not strep, either - there’s just a nasty little virus going around. It starts with a lot of swelling in the throat, a fever for a couple of days, and just general tiredness. My son had it and was over it in about 3-4 days.
