Injury Report and Training Recap - August 28
Written by supahrevs on August 28, 2009 – 2:40 pm -
Another Friday, another injury report, and after Tuesday’s list had a few more bumps and bruises than we’ve become accustomed to seeing in recent weeks, we’re back to good news the day before a critical home match against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Today’s injury report includes eight players, but five are listed as “Probable” and shouldn’t be greatly affected by their injuries tomorrow night. Two players are off the list completely, two more have been upgraded and just one has been added.
Here is the official New England Revolution injury report for Friday, Aug. 28:
PROBABLE: Kheli Dube (L hamstring strain), Jay Heaps (L hamstring strain), Brad Knighton (Lumbar disc irritation), Jeff Larentowicz (R wrist fracture), Kenny Mansally (L ankle sprain)
DOUBTFUL: Edgaras Jankauskas (L adductor strain)
OUT: Chris Albright (L lateral meniscus tear/bone bruising), Taylor Twellman (Disabled List: concussion)
Kevin Alston is off the list completely after battling an illness earlier in the week, and the rookie defender was heathly enough to take part in training the past couple of days. Also off the list is Bobby Shuttleworth, who has recovered from a right hip flexor strain.
The only addition to today’s report is Brad Knighton, who is listed as “Probable” with lumbar disc irritation. Despite the injury, the backup goalkeeper trained full today.
Upgraded from “Questionable” to “Probable” are both Kheli Dube (L hamstring strain) and Jeff Larentowicz (R wrist fracture). Dube - last Sunday night’s hat-trick hero against Real Salt Lake - was limited in training early in the week but participated full the past couple of days. Larentowicz never even missed a training session despite a fractured radius in his right arm, training all week with heavy padding over his cast.
Jay Heaps (L hamstring strain) and Kenny Mansally (L ankle sprain) remain “Probable.” Both have trained full for the most part this week, with each picking certain spots to be smart and rest their injuries.
Still “Doubtful” ahead of tomorrow night’s match is Edgaras Jankauskas, who is suffering from a left adductor strain. The target forward was present at training all week doing some form of exercise, with today’s workout including jogging, stretching and a bit of light passing.
Both Taylor Twellman (Disabled List: concussion) and Chris Albright (L lateral meniscus tear/bone bruising) remain “Out” and continue their rehabilitation away from the training field.
As for today’s light session, it was standard fare for the day before a game. Jogging and stretching was followed by some brief passing drills, then the session went straight into a game of 11 vs. 11 in preparation for tomorrow night’s match. Crossing and finishing closed the workout, with the right side victorious over the left.
Of course, the day wasn’t complete without an intense game of soccer horseshoes featuring the unstoppable duo of Steve Nicol and Paul Mariner taking on Wake Forest pair Wells Thompson and Pat Phelan. While the former Demon Deacons gave the coaching staff a brief scare, Nicol and Mariner were victorious once again.
