Did everyone know that this is the tightest playoff race in MLS history, with seven teams still vying for three spots entering the final weekend of the regular season? And the playoff possibilities are so vast that there are at least 50 possible tiebreaking scenarios which may have to be worked out by Sunday night? We’re pretty sure you did, but just in case, the Associated Press has an interesting feature on the excitement (and chaos) the situation has created around the league, with quotes from a few coaches and players who admit that even they aren’t positive what needs to happen on the final weekend for their team to secure a spot.
It’s Thursday and that also means it’s time for Kyle McCarthy’s weekly East notes (with separate sections devoted to Taylor Twellman and Steve Ralston) and Jeff Carlisle’s West notes.
Finally, Jeff Bradley’s First XI focuses on the Red Bulls’ final game at Giants Stadium against Toronto FC - which coincidentally greatly affects the Revs and their quest for a playoff spot - as the New York club will open Red Bull Arena for the start of the 2010 campaign.
