Revolution NewsstandAfter yesterday’s 2-1 home victory over the Chicago Fire, the Revs will be going into Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series with a one goal advantage. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s take a look back at Game 1.

The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Attleboro Sun Chronicle, and Associated Press all have game stories this morning. Frank Dell’Apa and Kyle McCarthy provide additional coverage in their Revs Notebooks for the Globe and Herald respectively.

MLSnet.com analyzes the match from several angles, starting with a game report. Next, Kyle McCarthy explores the Revs’ response to the Fire’s 17th-minute goal. And from the Chicago side of things, McCarthy looks at how the Fire’s attack-minded strategy backfired in the away-leg of the series.

In his blog for ESPN Chicago, Charlie Corr looks at how missed opportunities contributed to Chicago’s defeat.

Finally, Goal.com has their game story, and also names Shalrie Joseph as their player of the week based on his leadership and versatility. And as per every monday, Kyle McCarthy’s MLS Breakdown addresses all of the weekend’s unexpected events.

    Great Game!!!
Congrads to the guys. I was impressed too by how much the crowd got into it too!

Too Bad we did not get a larger crowd! Only 7,416 fans showed up. Where are the rest of the soccer fans in New England? Or are they anti-MLS. Like it or not this is America’s League, It needs more fans to fill the seats. At least 14,000 to 18,000 would have been acceptable. But not even 10,000? Soccer is not a new sport here. And I know that we have more former players of the sport who should have gone to this game.

I totally agree. The Revs played a great game! They deserve a bigger crowd! It’s too bad the media does not pay that much attention to soccer. On the Fox Morning News, Geno called soccer a “minor sport” in America. Considering the large number of kids signed up to play Youth Soccer in every town, I wouldn’t call it a minor sport. Soccer’s a great game!

I hate to break this to you, but last night’s attendance was a step up from recent years where we usually draw around 5,000 to MLS Cup matches. I can’t really think of an explanation as to why we can draw 15,000 during the regular season, but only 5,000 to 7,000 during the Cup.

  5. John Says:

I can think of a few explanations why we only got 7,000. The team snuck into the playoffs. The game wasn’t advertised. The game isn’t part of a season ticket package. The time of the game was changed. Foxborough is a terrible location to get to.

The 7,000 people that were there are the 7000 people who have not missed a game all year. They are the core group of fans the revolution have, and the stadium had a better atmosphere with that 7000 than it did with 20,000 on summer days.

Hey Nick and John, that brings back memories of the 2002 Eastern Conference Championship against Columbus in the rain and wind only 9,000 showed up for that one. And then the next week for the final against the Galaxy 61,000 plus fans showed up. Where are these fans now?
