It starts tonight …

For those of you with a rooting interest in the Revolution’s playoff fate - and we’re assuming that’s all of you if you’re reading this blog - you’ll want to tune in to ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET tonight to catch the Columbus Crew battle Real Salt Lake in the other Eastern Conference Semifinal Series, and here’s why …

The situation is as follows:

  • If Real Salt Lake advances to the Eastern Conference Championship, the winner of the Revolution-Fire series will host RSL in the conference title game on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. ET.
  • If Columbus advances to the Eastern Conference Championship, the Crew will host the winner of the Revolution-Fire series in the conference title game on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. ET.

So, not only does tonight’s game determine who the Revolution would play in the Eastern Conference Championship should they advance, but it also determines whether or not the Revs would host that game.

As a quick refresher, RSL won Game 1 of its series with the Crew and owns a 1-0 lead entering tonight’s decisive second leg. With that in mind, here are the scenarios for tonight:

  • A Real Salt Lake win or draw sends RSL to the Eastern Conference Championship.
  • A Columbus win by two or more goals sends the Crew to the Eastern Conference Championship.
  • A Columbus win by a single goal sends the game to an extra-time period, to be played in two 15-minute halves, immediately following the final whistle tonight. If a winner has not been decided by the end of extra time, the series will be decided by penalty kicks.

So, while the Revolution-Fire series doesn’t conclude until Saturday night, you can watch tonight’s match with serious interest and the Revolution’s possible playoff future in mind.

Well, it’s working out like we want for an Eastern Conference final at Gillette…all we have to do is go through. In a season where RSL can upend Columbus, there’s no reason why we can’t douse the Fire!

Die-hard Revs fan. Watched that game. Amazing, great game for Schelleto, but RSL we’re too good. I’ll be at the game sunday, rooting for the Revs. Good luck you guys, an I’m with Cammiev, lets douse the Fire.
