Revolution Newsstand - November 7
Written by supahrevs on November 7, 2009 – 11:28 am -
After another week of anticipation, it’s finally here. Game day.
Tonight, the Revolution battles the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park (8:30 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel, WRKO 680 AM) with a spot in the Eastern Conference Championship on the line. One team will advance to host Real Salt Lake in the conference title game, while the other’s season will end … it’s that simple.
With the Revs carrying a 2-1 lead from the first leg into tonight’s decisive Game 2, we’re going to keep it simple on the blog, too. Here’s today’s newsstand …
1. Reis the Fire fighter (Boston Globe)
2. Revolution-Fire (Boston Globe)
3. Playoff plan set for Revolution (Boston Herald)
4. Chicago Fire’s playoff task: Win by 2 (Chicago Tribune)
5. New England at Chicago (Associated Press)
6. Revs hope to reverse history against Fire (MLSnet.com)
7. Scoring mode a must for Fire (MLSnet.com)
8. It’s win, or stay home (ESPN Chicago)
9. Davis: Watershed moments for two sides (MLSnet.com)
Much of the focus in the press is on the Revolution’s less-than-stellar history in Chicago in the playoffs (0-6-0, outscored by a margin of 15-2). It’s also been mentioned that the Revs have never closed out a series against the Fire in the Windy City, eliminating their rival from the playoffs four times in Foxborough but never in Chicago.
But tonight, history means nothing. Tonight is Game 2 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinal Series and nothing else.
Tonight, will history be re-written?

I hope that the revenue from FSC is sufficient to make up for disenfranchising fans. Not everyone has nor, in these economic times, can afford access to a premium channel.
I have been an ardent Revs fan since moving back to NE (from Chicago …). But being unable to watch the crucial playoff match is far worse than not being able to see one during the regular season.
At this point, I almost do not care.

Do not forget Chicago has a better away record than they do at home, that is an advantage for the Revs.

Hey guys, I wish all the best that this world provides for this very, very, very important match tonight against Chicago. This is the chance to show how good you really are. Keep focused, work hard and play smart, especially defensively. This will be the key against Chicago.
Best wishes from Switzerland

All Rev Fans should not be ashamed of this team. They went as far as they could go this season dispite injuries and supensions. Yet they still made the post-season when we thought they were dead, and were given new life. Hats off to Coach Nicol. Shalrie Joseph, Jeff Larentowicz, and the rest of the team for what they did this season. Let’s hope they get Twellman and Ralston back next year. Also good luck to Coach Nicol in searching for new talent next season, Maybe Africa, Central or South America or the College ranks, Coach Nicol always finds the players that he needs. I will talk to all you bloggers during the Super Draft.

I was unable to see the game despite all the time I put in to watching the revs all season long. Lets go front office and get the games accesible to the most amount of people. FSC sucks, stick with UPN. I hate this FSC sh*t. I am holding myself back from expressing all this frustration I hold with all their games on FSC.

Well, last night proved that sometimes you can’t buy a goal. Look, with what went on this season (all the injuries), I was thrilled we got into the playoffs, but realistically, we probably got as far as we could. I hate, hate, hate, losing to the Fire, but I’m really proud of the team.

matt93 - Everyone understands your frustration, but the league has a partnership with FSC, not the team. Of course we wish to have every game accessible to all of our fans, but the decision to televise this series on FSC was made by the league in conjunction with MLS’ national broadcast partners. Had neither ESPN2 or FSC picked up the match, we most certainly would have arranged to have the game televised on a local station.
