A heart-stopping MLS Cup final capped an ever-exciting 2009 MLS season last night, as Real Salt Lake defied the odds to capture its first MLS Cup against the LA Galaxy in Seattle. Kyle McCarthy files two pieces for MLSnet.com this morning, both focusing on Real Salt Lake’s play, including the changes to the midfield it utilized, and the play of Robbie Findley. The Associated Press also has a recap of last night’s game.
McCarthy also checks in with his weekly MLS Breakdown for Goal.com, featuring the tale of RSL’s remarkable run.
In other MLS news, league commissioner Don Garber went on record saying that the league is looking to expand to Montreal for its 19th club.

RSL turned out to be the best team in the end of season tournament called the playoffs. RSL was not the best team in MLS in 2009. It’s really kind of silly that a below .500 team ends up being called the league champion.

Well, RSL played as if their lives depended on it; it seems fair that they are the new champions. They took care of great teams (LA included)with a modest -but unquestionably determined- roster.
So, congratulations!
