I just flew into the Windy City

I’m getting some pretty spotty internet coverage in my hotel room (it’s not like Chicago is a major city or anything, right?) so I’ll keep this short for the time being. The bottom line is the Revs have arrived in Chi-town ahead of tomorrow night’s SuperLiga 2010 Group B match against the rival Fire with a travel party consisting of the 17 players who dressed on Wednesday night against Pumas plus Khano Smith, who has sufficiently recovered from a right ankle sprain.

With a win tomorrow night at Toyota Park, the Revs could clinch a spot in the SuperLiga 2010 semifinals and they’ll undoubtedly be eager to continue the run of form which has seen them win their last two matches, both via shutout. I spoke with some of the guys after training on Thursday afternoon, and here are a few of the quotes I got from them which didn’t make the preview (which you can read here).

Assistant Coach Steve Myles
“We’ll go there and we’ll keep trying to do the things that we’ve done and improved on. There’s still a lot to improve on, but we’re doing things the right way at the moment and we’re heading in the right direction.”

“It’s important when you’re playing good teams – not just the Mexican teams – I think it’s important when you’re playing any good teams, that you keep your shape well. If you can do that and you’re well organized, then it gives you a chance.”

Darrius Barnes
“You can tell, with one win it changes everything. I remember after the LA game everybody forgot what it was like to win, and once you get that feeling back, it’s a brand new ballgame. Everybody’s feeling good and feeling confident that the team can put the ball down and play and get some good performances out. If we continue to do that, the confidence is only going to get higher.”

“We’ve just done a lot better job of communicating and keeping our shape, keeping track of runners and passing guys on really well. I think these past two games the back four and also the midfield have done a good job communicating … I think that’s been the difference so far. Hopefully we can continue to get better at that and tighten that up even more going forward.”

Chris Tierney
“We have a stretch of games here where we don’t get much rest, so it’s important to take care of your body, make sure you’re eating the right stuff, getting in the training room and just taking care of yourself.”

“They have a good atmosphere. The field’s obviously pretty big, it’s a good surface, so they tend to open it up and really go for it there. I think if we’re just smart and put ourselves in good spots and keep the ball, then we should get a good result.”

Perfect time to go back to Chicago. They are sputtering, while we are regaining focus. I feel good about this match.

OK, wait, I am getting carried away. I guess “feel good” is a relative term I can throw out there - since we are basically talking about playing with a 2-game win streak - coming on the heels of a 1-win-in-last-12 stretch. So, let’s just say that I think we have a better chance at a positive result!
