Let’s try this again, Kansas City

I can only hope this weekend’s trip to Kansas City goes a bit more smoothly than our last journey to The Show-Me State.

For those who don’t recall, the Revs visited KC back in late May for a U.S. Open Cup play-in match against Sporting Kansas City and not a whole lot went right during our stay. We landed minutes ahead of an end-of-the-world type storm, were confined to the hotel lobby and ballroom for much of the following afternoon as a tornado touched down in the city, and to cap it all off our team flight back to Boston was cancelled. Oh, we also suffered a 5-0 loss in the actual game, which was played amidst driving rain and swirling winds.

But there’s good news! We’ll start with a fresh slate when we take off for a return trip to Kansas City later this afternoon, and I’m willing to give it another shot. I’d certainly like to leave with some better memories this time around.

Of course, we’re heading to Kansas City for our first-ever visit to LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, where the Revs will battle Sporting on Saturday night (8:30 p.m. ET, CSN, 98.5 The Sports Hub) to round out a season-long three-game road swing. The journey began last week with stops in D.C. and Colorado as the Revs picked up four points with a win over United and a draw with the Rapids.

Kansas City enters this weekend’s action riding a club record 12-game unbeaten run, so the Revs will have their work cut out for them as they look to start a modest streak of their own. If you haven’t already, you can get up to speed ahead of the match with preview coverage in both written and video form here.

We’ll have one more pregame update on Saturday afternoon with Revolution Soccer Gameday from Kansas City, so be sure to join us then …

Good luck and have fun. I’ve heard Sporting’s new stadium has state of the art locker rooms. Do you know if Kevin Alston ended up making the trip and why wasn’t AJ bar tending last night?

Chris B – We haven’t actually left for the trip yet so I’m not sure whether Kevin Alston will be joining us … we’ll have more on that tomorrow. A.J. was unable to attend last night’s event because of an illness.

Just got around to watching the video. That was awesome. They were like brothers out there so funny! Which player made your drink (if you had one)?

Matt Reis made me a Sweet Old Fashioned.

So our big DP is a guy who hasn’t played in a year, already failed a physical in Europe, and is trying to make a comeback after tearing an ACL…. hard to get excited about this one. Looks like another wait and see, not an impact on delivery kind of player (Like Benny).
I’m keepin my fingers crossed that this one will pan out but I’m not holding my breath. sigh…..
